Many to One

Posted on Feb 27, 2022 by Simon

To pick and choose where you want to consolidate should come from the end users perspective. In particular what degree of frustration can the user tolerate. The answer is simply zero. No frustration, no headaches. That is easy enough, but what about the administrator who has to maintain a frictionless environment. Some consideration should be given there as well.

A good example is from where do you want to present the catalog views. Do you want to litter the screen on a SAP SRM system with countless links to a Rinktee catalog? Or one nice link from SAP to Rinktee which then displays categories and lists in an orderly structured manner. I think the Admin would appreciate the task of not having to juggle multiple setups and just focus on the presentation layout. The end user would be just as happy too.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

There have been a few questions as to why one should not update a live catalog directly, as written on the Rinktee support catalog maintenance page. Nothing is preventing the admin from doing so, and the catalog system is designed to do on the fly updates.

But like it or not, occasionally even the experienced administrator can make the occasional mistake. That is why we recommend to make a copy of the current live catalog, make the change, maybe experiment with this and that, to understand and ensure that the listed items are accurate. If by chance a change did turn out in error, the admin can roll back the catalog to the previous instance to make the correction all without severely impacting the users shopping experience.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Abbreviations

Posted on Jan 30, 2018 by Simon
As a continuation of the previous blog on managing the layout of a punchout titled If Short On Space, here are but a few suggestions on abbreviating long words.

The website Abbreviations was of great help in putting this brief sample.

CCY - Category
MFG - Manufacturer
UOM - Unit of Measure
Item # - Item Number
Desc - Description
Cat - Category

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

If Short On Space

Posted on Dec 28, 2017 by Simon
Most punchout catalog systems are somewhat stingy on space and also in what they allow you to customize.

Not so with Rinktee.

As seen on the screenshot below, the Details link and "Add to cart" button are almost entirely hidden from view since the admin had chosen to make Category and the Manufacturer columns visible on the punchout item list.

A quick adjustment to the attributes in Views, shortening "Item Number" to "Item #", and Manufacturer to Mfg, and Currency to Curr, frees up space to give room for Details and the button.

For more details on this customization and others, please visit our site at, punchout-item-list.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Fun With Multiple Images

Posted on Nov 30, 2017 by Simon
One Image
Ever need to display more than one image of an item to the user, but the software limited you to just one image?

If you needed two images, or 3, or 4, 5, 6, the choice is yours.

Make sure in your CSV file each item has the images listed, then within Views, move each Image up to the top of the list, and then in Attributes click Visible in List.

Three Images
And that's it! Now the user will see multiple images for each item as they are displayed in the punchout.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!
